OK SO im sorry for commenting but i have some strong feelings about both kiriasu and kirisachi that made me want to examine this

sachi was kirito’s first crush. they were similar in a lot of ways, and kirito had a strong drive to protect her because she was afraid of dying. there’s some changes between the web version and the published version, so take whichever you want as canon, i guess?? but yes. there was romance there, even though it never got its chance to develop. [everything past this point is just conjecture from me ok]

i feel like had they not gone to that dungeon, the romance had an equal chance of progressing or falling apart; kirito had it in the back of his mind at all times that he is a beater, he is hiding something major (his level) from his companions, this might have led to him starting to push people away until they find out, and i’m not sure how people would react, given the widespread prejudice against beaters. either that, or kirito would play it smart and let everyone else catch up to his level, leveling at a slower pace than them until they’re all roughly the same level, though it might take a while, and nobody has to find out about him being a beta tester. 

if the romance worked out, still, they’re going to the front lines; this was keita’s aim, fighting alongside the strong even as a smaller guild, being able to help people this way. kirito meets with asuna, it’s chemistry at work. she’s pushy and determined, he argues with her because he sees NPCs as human and she doesn’t or because he likes to see her lose her composure, so on and so forth. every time they meet up, they bicker, but it’s becoming less antagonistic and more “i like to provoke you” on kirito’s end and “i can’t back down from a challenge” on asuna’s end. the relationship between kirito and sachi would probably become more distant as he starts finding himself involved in ‘situations’ with asuna, meanwhile sachi starts looking to keita (who according to the published version, likely had a crush on her) for support, and… kiriasu and keita/sachi start to develop while kirisachi becomes distant and falls apart, with about the same level of commitment as high school sweethearts.

this is how i see it going anyway but yes feel free to add if you think differently
