Sword Art Online is confusing to me. Second season made a bit more sense plot wise (asides from all the harem crap) because Kirito doesn’t WANT to go into this virtual world, he’s asked and paid to. But if you were literally trapped in a game for what a year? You had to go through physio to learn to walk again and shit and then had to save your girlfriend from a creepy obsessed adult and had to murder him in a parking lot….it seems like the last thing you and your friends would EVER do EVER again is dive into another augmented reality game. :/

Kirito doesn’t kill Sugou. Also the harem crap is so overplayed in the anime. Sinon is the exact opposite of a love interest for the whole arc in the novels. She isn’t even mentally capable of having a relationship at that point.

The characters of Sword art online are so conditioned to the virtual world after spending 2 years in it that many of them can no longer live without it. They use the virtual world to do things like hang out and do schoolwork that they could just as easily do in reality.

They’ve lost sense of reality in that aspect, which is the real reason they all attend the same school. Not to get them caught up, but to watch their mental states.

There are plenty of survivors that become shut ins or never enter VR again after the game is cleared, but all of the main cast don’t. It probably would have made sense for at least one of the cast to refuse to go back into VR.

“Not to get them caught up, but to watch their mental states.” This is the main argument Asuna’s mother gives her in Mother’s Rosario for why she wants to pull Asuna out of that school and put her in a better one.

I don’t know what the official line is on what happened to Argo the Rat, and haven’t read Alicization yet, but I think she may well be one of the folks who swore off VR after getting out.

Especially after the focus Argo has in progressive, where is she after SAO ends? She’s not even at the party at the end of fairy dance.

It’s like she completely disappears as a character.

Even if I lose all my memories of SAO, that’s one feeling that will never, ever change.

“The emotional content of OS isn’t as heavy as what happened in Mother’s Rosario or the yet to come Alicization arc, but tell that to the tears that ended up on my screen watching the film [for the third time!]
