Just an honest question, why didn’t anyone on Sword Art Online just use an EMP? I mean the problem with unplugging the headgear was that there was a battery pack, right? So if they just put all the players in a warehouse and used an EMP to short out all the systems they could save everyone’s life.

it’s because the whole premise was that someone’s mind was downloaded to the server while their body was left behind….so an emp would have short circuit the nerve gear but their minds would still trapped on the server….and if you short circuit the server then i’m pretty sure you have killed the rest of the players on it

That’s not how the nervegear works. It merely stops the signals from the brain moving the body and uses those signals to move the game avatar.

An emp would work. It would kill the electronics in the headset and none of the triggers that kill a person for tampering with the headset would activate.. Nor would it trigger any of the server failsafes that kill all players.

But would they now that for sure? Using an EMP would probably still be a risky move as they might have risked the Nerve Gear killing the players and it might have interfered with the medical equipment used to keep them alive. Not to mention, EMPs are used for military purposes and there were 10,000 people trapped in SAO. Even if you factor in the people who died, that’s still a lot of people. Would they really risk using expensive military equipment on that many people when they needed to be used for conflicts and maybe even wars?

I didn’t say it wasn’t risky, just that it’s one of the actual flaws in the narrative.

The government taskforce didn’t try to remove players because it was too risky and could kill thousands.
