*SPOILERS. IF YOU VALUE THE SANCTITY OF SAO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON’T READ*
So We all know (those who watched anyway) how halfway through the first season Kirito defeats the endboss, saves everybody in Sword Art Online, they can all go HOME.
But the strangest thing happens during the battle. Kirito dies, his lifebar reaches zero but he makes an amazing comeback. Yeah sure, that was an act of willpower! Kirito is just that bad-ass!
But there was someone in the room who happened to have an item that revives players within three minutes of their death. I am talking about the christmas bonus item that Kirito won, but handed to Klein. Who was standing right behind Kirito when he died. Klein couldn’t move, but suggest he could still use his inventory?Klein is a man of honour,he doesn’t just equip samurai items, he swears by that role. When Kirito hands him the bonus item, he says: “Please use this on the next player who dies.“ supposedly thats the end of it. But what if Klein thought to himself: “Kirito is my friend, he tought me how to play and he won this item, this item belongs to him.“ So he waited until Kirito would need it. Then he could return it like an honest man. So when he saw that his friend was killed, it was the supreme opportunity to repay the dept. And he never mentioned it, he likes to boast his skills, but he honoured Kirito’s hard work, after all, it was Kirito’s item all along.
This would and could have been a pretty awesome moment, but sadly it can’t for quite a few reasons.
The story that Red Nosed Reindeer is adapted from was written after the original one in which the game was cleared. When Kirito defeats kayaba, the revival item doesn’t exist in the narrative.
Klein was paralyzed at the time and would not have been able to use the item.
Kirito and Asuna are kept alive by Kayaba himself because they DID surpass the system with human will. Otherwise they’d both be dead even after they cleared the game. Surpassing the system will become a plot item moving forwards, but at this point in the anime it’s an unknown.
When and where the revival item was used is not known. Perhaps we’ll find out in SAO: Progressive.
