okay, so I’m up to episode thirteen of season two, and I love the show, but I need some help. I want to read the books, and not the manga, as much as I love manga. I feel as though this kind of story needs more depth that manga can’t provide, the actual novels are what I’m interested in. So, I’m going to purchase them, but what ones do I buy, and what order do they go in? Please help, for looking it up is confusing me.
Reading the novels is pretty easy, as there are only two light novel series currently. The volumes are numbered, so you just start with SAO volume 001. The first six volumes are out in English which reaches the end of the Phantom bullet arc (right where you are in the anime).
There’s also SAO: progressive which is a retelling of the first arc of the series covering all 100 floors. There are currently 3 volumes of that in English. I wouldn’t recommend reading them until you’ve at least finished the first two volumes of the original series.
