I…literally have no idea where this came from, but I guess I ended up writing a drabble for SAO. So, yeah, here’s some random soulmate AU drabbles!

He was fourteen when he met his soulmate.

The NerveGear required the input of the soulmark, ‘just in case’ someone met their soulmate in game. It was another angle the advertising used to draw people into the world of SAO; the potential to meet your soulmate even if they were oceans away. Kazuto hadn’t been keen on putting in the first words his soulmate would say to him (well, it was just one word: ‘Kirito,’ wrapping around his left wrist) but he went ahead with it anyway. Just as long as he could get on with the game and start exploring the virtual reality.

If pressed, he never admitted it was the reason that his SAO avatar was named. He had been stumped and spotted the dark word on his wrist and went with it.

He left out the other pair of words on his body, laid out smoothly on his lower back. No one saw his back anyway; even he never saw them, unless he twisted his neck around and stared at them in a mirror. Two short lines: ‘Not even. I was already left out.’ It made him wonder what sad soul he would meet that would say those words; they were probably a loner in high school, like him. Someone who knew what is what like to be alone.

It was funny how wrong that idea was when he actually met the Loner (as he had dubbed them in his mind). This girl would never lack for friends as long as she was in this accursed world.
