Okay, so I just started playing SAO: Hollow Fragment the other day. It’s my first real experience with SAO (I have some of the manga, but haven’t read them yet. I hear the anime is shit, so I’ve been avoiding the fuck out of it), and I just got Kirito back home from his first trip to the Hollow Area, and suddenly there’s like a pack of 5 girls just fretting over him, and I only know Asuna (and their daughter Yui, but she doesn’t count for obvious reasons).
So is Kirito poly? I mean, I’m not saying that’s wrong, especially if everyone involved is okay with it. If Kirito and Asuna are polyamorous characters that’s fine. I’m just a complete n00b to the universe and wasn’t expecting that. I would have liked a little warning.
Sword art online has some harem elements, as there are quite a few girls in his orbit. But in the main series he’s in a committed relationship with Asuna and most of the girls recognize and respect that.
The games play more towards a harem feel and allowing you to romance any of the girls.
