Aside from the fact that it's a new story written by Reki himself, do we know anything about the new movie? For instance, is it going to be a completely new story or is it going to be 70% recap like the Extra Edition was?

We weren’t given much information yet; what we do know so far is that it should air in 2016, have a focus on Kirito and Asuna, and that side characters like Klein and Lisbeth will at least get some screentime. I assume it’s safe to say that it’ll be a full fledge movie unlike Extra Edition, since if I understood this correctly, it’s going to be airing at theaters, and not be a TV special this time.

On the bright side, that probably means 90+ minutes of new footage with an original story, but that also means it’ll probably take several months for us to be able to watch it after its premiere, since us outside of Japan will have to wait for Blu-ray. I also wonder what that means for the speculated Alicization arc animation, though. 

Anyway, the only cemented information we have so far is the focus on Kirisuna and the side character screentime, I think. Most other things are in the dark right now.
