Well-Informed SAO fans out there!!

Can someone explain to me how Kirito was able to swipe Leafa’s sword and then use it against Eugene without it being in his inventory? I thought the only way for weapons to be used was if they were in the person’s inventory, but now I’m kinda confused since Kirito managed to just take it from Leafa’s hip and use it immediately. This isn’t hate, btw, I’m genuinely curious :P

Because it’s a 3D world items out of inventory and in “equipped” are actual game objects.  They can be dropped and picked up by other players.

It’s the subject of an extensive weapon upgrade scam in SAO:Progressive, and can be seen in the anime when Kirito picks up Asuna’s rapier during the fight with Heathcliff, or when he fights eugene or when he and Suguha throw their weapons away during their duel.

In the SAO game this wouldn’t have been very useful as you’d have to have that particular weapon skill to use sword skills.  In alfheim however as long as you have the necessary stats you can use the weapon as the battle engine is completely player based
