I wanted to clear up something that has been bugging me. Recently, I’ve seen a number of posts complaining that Kirito introduced Asuna as his “friend” to Sinon. That is a bit of a misunderstanding.
When he was making introductions, he was referring to both Asuna and Lisbeth. I’m not sure what word they used in the English dub, but in the Japanese version, he says “nakama”, which could mean friend, but also means partner/colleague/comrade, etc. So it’s not like he said “This is my FRIEND Asuna.” It was more like “These are my comrades from SAO.”
“But Shin, he introduced them separately after that so he could have introduced Asuna as his girlfriend!”
And why exactly what he do that? Think about Kirito’s personality for a second. Despite his romance with Asuna, Kirito is still quite introverted. Do you think someone like that would go out of his way to say “This is my girlfriend!”?
Exactly. I don’t even get what people are trying to imply when they complain about that. Do they think Kirito was trying to be sneaky about having a girlfriend… in front of his girlfriend?
By Alicization Asuna and Sinon are great friends too, and Sinon even mentions their relationship during her character Q&A session (even though I’m not sure how canon that thing is), so there is no way she is not aware of their relationship.
