10/12ths the way throught SAOA:GGO and I gotta say, when you take the world of SAO and let someone who isn’t Reki Kawahara write it, it ends up being pretty damn good.
Considering that AGGO is praised for what the original was given crap for(or worse, never recognized for), that’s just showing an obvious bias based on author, and, quite frankly, that’s ridiculous. It’s almost like this is being said solely out of spite for the original.
Reki Kawahara doesn’t deserve this bullshit treatment or the horrible reputation he’s received from hypocrites that just love using double-standards or biases like this (or in most instances, wild accusations without elaborating).
I feel that most people are like “Kawahara is a terrible writer, GGO is so much better” are basing it entirely on the anime and have never read word one of the light novel. And don’t realize that 99% of Alternatives mechanics, world and setting were created by Kawahara. Like I literally had someone tell me SAO doesn’t focus on mechanics at all the other day.
There are things Alternative certainly does better than the main series. Humor is certainly way better, Miyu in particular is a riot. Then again Alternative is for the most part a no stakes series. Other than Pitohui and Llenn everyone is just playing for fun. Gun play by the professed gun nut is certainly better choreographed than Kawahara did in Phantom Bullet. And the periphery teams and characters are all given way more backstory than many of the non-main characters in kawahara’s works.
But so many of the things people rag on the original series are present in Alternative. Like attempted sexual assault, overpowered characters, people taking a game too seriously, unexplained plot elements and deus ex machina moments etc.
