And now for a passion project of mine that’s been practically a year in the making. Not many people know this, but the fact is, I can pretty much attribute my revived love of anime to Sword Art Online. Growing up, I watched all the OG Funimation hits, from DBZ to YYH to FMA and Ouran. I bought all the DVDs from Best Buy the weeks they came out. I DIY cosplayed with my junior high school girl skirts and fingerless gloves from Hot Topic.
Once I got into high school though, I figured I was “too cool” and needed to grow up. It wasn’t until about three or four years ago when my boyfriend introduced me to SAO that it all came rushing back. I’ll admit, the show isn’t perfect. It can even be downright groan-inducing at times. Still, I owe it to Reki Kawahara for giving me back my childhood in a way. Or at least waiting ‘til I could find some grown-up geeky friends, so I wouldn’t feel so alone in my geekiness :P
In any case, it’s been a couple years since the last Sword Art anime season has aired, but the light novels are still going strong, and I cannot wait for the next arc to be animated. I also couldn’t wait to cosplay Kirito and Asuna’s new outfits for that season, so here we are. :) Hope you guys like them!
