I think a fair share of LN readers have expressed their disappointment that this wholesome Kirito’s monologue about Eugeo’s importance to him got cut from the anime ep 18, so I’ve uploaded them here again because there is so many goodness in it that the anime has failed to convey thus far:
- Before Eugeo, Kirito has never have a male best friend who he can lay himself bare with, even before SAO’s incident. There are Klein & Agil whom he described as great companions who he found common ground with, but they never reach that kind of deep friendship.
- After the SAO incident he has always been held as a hero by everyone which he struggled to keep up with and he also felt that hero image kept him further and further away from the more genuine, truly important things. That’s why he’s so amazed and happy that he found a friend in Eugeo whom he can be comfortable around and doesn’t have to keep up any image.
- He’s grown to appreciate Eugeo’s potential and he’s also very proud of Eugeo’s growth thus far, going so far as saying Eugeo has more potentials than him as a swordman.
- If the escape plan from Underworld is successful, Kirito would be so eager and happy to show off Eugeo to everybody in ALO, saying Eugeo’s his first pupil and his best friend.
Maybe the anime will include some of this later somewhere, like the flashback scene with Cardinal’s explanation of Enhance Armanent & Release Recollection in this episode, but yeah it’s truly a shame that this cut would make the anime fail to show some Kirito’s character development and how important his relationship with Eugeo truly is.
