Project Aliczation episode 2 thoughts. Again some slight light...

Project Aliczation episode 2 thoughts. Again some slight light novel spoilers, but nothing beyond what has been said so far.

For starters I just have to say again how beautiful the Underworld is. The Sword Art Online anime for all it’s faults has always had good scenery porn, but this is just exemplary. This adaptation has been visually stunning so far and I hope they can keep this up.

The biggest change in the anime since the changing of directors is the inclusion of Kirito’s inner monologues. These have always been present in the light novel, and have been absent in the anime until now. As the novel is written mostly in first person, so much of what kirito thinks is relevant world building. In fact there is almost no way for him to reason out what is happening in the Underworld without it here. There’s no one for him to talk to or otherwise explain it to him. The fact that all the residents of the Underworld are actual human souls instead of NPC characters is explained well enough unlike some of the mechanics in the earlier games.

Now there is one major change here where he reasons that fluctlights are being copied from human babies, which is not information he has at this time. Another change is Kirito showing a sword skill. This is not a scene that takes place in the novel, and not something he realizes until later in his time in the Underworld. In fact there’s no way Zink would have even questioned Kirito’s story given how the underworld works. I guess it does introduce Zink and his disdain for Eugeo earlier.

There’s Selka who clearly definitely does not in anyway have a crush on Eugeo. That one glance where he looks away tells you everything you need to know about their relationship and his guilt over not saving Alice. A great little touch.

Kirito and Eugeo best bros for life, even when they don’t have memories of one another. Their interactions are going to be core to this arc, and it’s great to see them shown so well. I’m loving this adaptation so far, and can’t wait to see how it continues.
