Yo it’s been 3 years since I shut down this blog. I haven’t visited it in almost 24 months, so it was a surprise to me how much endearing messages there are in the inbox. Some backlash, as expected, but mostly just nice comments from people who’ve discovered the blog while I’ve been away and enjoyed that their distaste for SAO is being validated.
So thanks for the nice words guys!
But now, there are some things I myself have to say. This not just for approving readers but also for the SAO fanatics who threw harsh criticism at this blog back when it was active.
Honesty below the cut.
How Cute
Nothing’s changed, your blog is still a terrible cesspool of flawed arguments, misinformation and straight up bullshit. That while it constantly tried to say it was only using the anime brought up the Author of the novels and not the writer of the particular episodes.
And you should still feel bad about the amount of effort you seemingly put into it for less notes than this post will get because I reblogged it.
ewsao’s posts seem to be an incredibly thought out analysis of sao. they arent misinformation because the posts are opinion pieces. misinformation is more comparable to what you said about who ewsao bases his opinion off of. in one post he clarifies that his arguments are anime focuses with “I AM NOT IMPLYING THAT ANIME-BASED FACTS WOULD APPLY TO THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE”. instead of using fluff like calling the blog a cesspool of flawed arguments develop your own arguments
Do we really need to do this again? Seeming like incredibly thought out analysis and being so aren’t the same thing. Good opinions are based on fact. hiding behind the “it’s opinion defense” has been a troll excuse for centuries. Opinions can be and often are wrong.
As for coming up with my own arguments, I replied to everyone of the original blogs posts in some fashion the first time around. Here’s a few examples of his anime focused content:
- States kirito’s ability to dodge bullets is just an ability given to him in GGO, despite it being stated and shown to be core gameplay mechanic in the second episode that everyone uses.
- States that kirito only left the cave with leafa because they were going in the same direction in episode 19 yet somehow ends up fighting with her against the salamanders between episodes despite the whole reason they leave the cave in the opposite direction of the world tree in episode 19 is to help the Sylphs and Cait Sith. States he has no reason to help despite it being repeatedly stated to require more than one race to reach the summit, and a clear speech by Kirito about not letting teammates die etc.
- Complains about people having time to talk after having fatal damage or not taking potions when it is repeatedly shown that your HP slowly drains out after taking damage instead of instantly.
- States the makers of SAO have no idea how PVP work despite the series being based largely on the first PVP MMO.
- Attacking the series treatment of Sinon’s social stigma without understanding Japanese gun culture.
- Believing that kirito spawn of course in Alfheim because of his SAO skills despite that never being stated or implied. And a much more plausible explanation was put forth.
- Complete misunderstanding of how paralysis works despite it being shown no less than 3 times in the anime. States that you cannot move at all despite all characters afflicted with it being able to move at least their left arm.
- States that auto-healing should work while paralyzed despite that never being stated and running contrary to every RPG ever.
- The blog states that kirito has more speed and strength when using illusion magic. Illusion magic is said to not be useful in combat. When kirito uses it the anime makes a point to let the viewer know that he isn’t any stronger and it gives him no combat increase. He’s stated to win because they broke formation nothing more.
- Assumes because there are only 10 players out of 10,000 in the game under the age of 14 that SAO must not have had an age restriction.
- States Kirito should not be powerful in ALO despite it being a carbon copy of SAO and him bringing all of skills over. Something that is later shown to happen to all SAO players that transfer their data.
- Believing that there’s no way Sinon should be able to use VR to deal with her PTSD despite that being an actual real world thing used by Militaries in this day and age.
- Simply cannot understand how kirito and asuna live despite kayaba saying he kept them alive minutes later.
- Can’t understand how kirito can drive a motorcycle in game after he’s shown to drive one in real life.
- Think’s because people call themselves certain things that there must be classes in SAO and saying there isn’t is some sort of contradiction. When there are never once shown to be classes in the game.
- Unable to understand how the players couldn’t find the boss door in the first month in a dungeon they called a Labyrinth.
- Doesn’t believe Sinon should have knowledge of guns despite being shown in the anime to read gun magazines in her spare time.
- States only kirito calls his attack out, despite multiple people doing so in the second season and every sword skill being revealed to have a name.
- Believes Kirito and Asuna should not have assumed Yui couldn’t be an NPC despite giving actual reasons about why NPCs cannot be moved without a quest trigger.
- Believes kirito actually wakes up and walks out of his hospital room despite that being shown to be a metaphor for his search for Asuna and to not actually have happened in season 2.
- Believes all players in the game should have hair color matching their real world selves despite being shown with Liz in the first episode that changing your hair color is a thing.
- Probably my favorite. Believing using a high class item named after a type of stew in a stew to be a waste. Also stating that you wouldn’t use a high quality cutlet in a stew because it loses it’s taste. When as anyone that cooks knows high quality cutlets have no taste and you use rough cuts of meet in stew specifically for their flavor.
