Friendly reminder that Sword art online is modeled after a skill based learning tree instead of the now standard holy trinity of tanks dps and healers. Each character has a set number of skill slots and thousands of skills to choose from.
Contrary to how the anime portrays things there are a lot more character builds than DPS. You skill build is what depends on what your character does. You can build a character that is basically what would pass as a tank in another MMO. If you use most of your skill slots towards crafting, you’re probably not going to be fighting much at all. There are characters that mainly act as scouts and put all their skill tree into speed, evasion, and hiding sneaking abilities.
