Episode three happens over a year after episode one, and since he was leveling up that whole time, I makes sense that he was that strong. Plus, since he was a beta tester, he knew more about how to level up and fight than most people in SAO. I’m actually surprised that he wasn’t a higher level at that time.

The whole point of Kirito going after Titan’s hand in episode 3 is that the leader of the guild went to the front line to ask ANYONE for help.

It didn’t matter who he asked because any player on the front lines would be strong enough to completely solo Titan’s Hand.

So anyone that tries to act like that’s some sort of proof Kirito is overpowered doesn’t even pay attention to the episode in question.

You know, people rant and rage at Kirito for being overpowered and completely god-tier in his universe, but honestly, that’s the equivalent of saying people using any exotic weapons at all are overpowered. He got a head start on leveling up. He did the grinding. He put the work and the motivation to level up that high as fast as he did. In Destiny terms, it’s basically the equivalent of Not Forgotten. He may be OP, but he put in the work to get up that high. I’m not saying it fixes the show, I’m just saying we shouldn’t blame Kirito. (Plus I do actually fucking love every season of that show. No shame.)

He’s not even god tier in his own universe. Like I understand anime people thinking that, but he’s just not. He’s only the strongest character in the series a few times. Most of the things he’s done that are supposedly “overpowered” can be done by just about any SAO survivor. Multiple characters are stronger than him at any given time.

Most things people claim to be god tier and OP are done by multiple other people in the series. Yet none of them are branded as Jesus Kun.

Say what you want about SAO, but the author’s response to people’s criticisms about the pacing and poor characterization in the first book (which was like that because it was written for a contest with a time limit) was to rewrite it into a massive multi-volume series with each book being twice the size as before, expanding on characters and improving the pacing while continuing the main novel series, and that’s fucking dedication.

During sao members of the clearing groups raid the laughing coffin hideout and people get killed. iirc in the web novel asuna does kill someone but I think it was changed in the light novel to just kirito killing someone. @sourcedartonline could you confirm?

Asuna originally kills Kuradeel in the web novel. In canon she goes without killing until in the death game.

They’re not interested in training any of these AI in warfare, just creating a template that can break rules. That’s all they care about. So they need an exception to determine how to make AI that can break the laws of the world. Why Alice broke a taboo isn’t as important as her breaking a taboo.
